Notifying Your Employees: Gender Affirmation Coverage Now Available

Your Extended Healthcare plan now includes a Gender Affirmation benefit. This new product will help your members or their dependents going through the medical transition of a gender-affirming journey.

LETTING YOUR PLAN MEMBERS KNOW ABOUT THIS CHANGE

By copying and pasting the following wording in an email to your plan members, you can let them know about this change.

Important: Refer to your benefits booklet to confirm if this coverage is included in your plan.

Cut and paste the following wording to send to your plan members with myGroupHEALTH

EMAIL SUBJECT:

An Important Change To Your Employee Benefits Plan

EMAIL BODY:

I wanted to let you know that GroupHEALTH has added Gender Affirmation coverage to our employee benefits plan.  If you or one of your dependents are going through a transition, this new coverage will help with the medical transition of the gender-affirming journey.

The benefit will cover surgeries and gender-affirming procedures not covered by the province – up to $10,000 annually and to a lifetime maximum of $20,000.

Gender Affirmation is available for you and your Dependents who are:

  • Over the age of 18
  • Have received a Gender Dysphoria Diagnosis from an accredited medical specialist.
  • Have been on hormone therapy for at least 12 consecutive months

Surgeries or procedures must be performed in Canada and require pre-approval. You can find the pre-approval form on the myGroupHEALTH portal under Forms & Booklets.
