Members on Strike, Lock-out, or Temporary Lay-off

275 views 2 March 19, 2018 Updated on October 15, 2023 ghclienthelp

A temporary lay-off is a period during which an member is temporarily laid-off, with an expectation of (or set date for) returning to work. Strikes or lock-outs can occur in unionized environments.

Tip!

GroupHEALTH recommends the employer consider establishing certain guidelines for strikes, lock-outs, or temporary lay-offs. For example:

  • Employers must determine whether or not to allow members to continue benefits coverage during a strike, lock-out, or temporary lay-off.
  • This decision should be made corporately and must be applied equally to all members.

The guidelines for extending (or denying) benefits during a strike, lock-out or temporary lay-off are identical to Personal Leave of Absence.

Notify your GroupHEALTH when a member is on strike, lock-out, or temporary lay-off.
