Safety starts with you: Injury Prevention Day

88 views 0 July 3, 2024 Updated on October 17, 2024 ghclienthelp

We all know that safety is important. But at the end of the day, accidents can and may happen.

July 5th is Injury Prevention Day – a day dedicated to raising awareness on preventable and predictable injuries to help Canadians live long, full lives. Here are some tips to help you and your employees stay safe at work and at home, today and every day.

  • Follow safety protocols: Whether it’s wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) or following proper procedures for handling equipment, following the rules seems basic, but can significantly reduce the risk of workplace injuries.
  • Stay limber: If you find yourself sitting or standing for long periods of time, stretch or walk around to promote blood flow and prevent stiffness. If you’re often moving, incorporate stretching and warm up exercises in your day to prevent strains.
  • Practice proper lifting techniques: Lifting techniques, such as bending at the knees and keeping your back straight, can help prevent back injuries. When lifting heavy objects, seek assistance or use mechanical aids whenever possible.
  • Create a safe environment: Remove tripping hazards like loose rugs or cluttered walkways to prevent falls. Install safety features like handrails and grab bars in areas prone to slips and trips, such as bathrooms and staircases.
