Making Sense of Changes in Coverage

244 views 2 March 19, 2018 Updated on October 15, 2023 ghclienthelp

Insurance coverage and the corresponding monthly premiums could be contingent upon salary, dependent coverage and/or member classification. As the Plan Administrator, you are responsible to ensure that member information is kept up-to-date at all times. This ensures that monthly premiums are calculated based on the most recent changes, and claims can be adjudicated accordingly.

Unless otherwise stated, a change in the amount of insurance will take effect on the date of the change. However, for the purpose of calculating monthly premiums, premium levels will change on the first of the month coincident with, or next following the effective date of the change. Monthly premiums affected by the change will not be pro-rated for a partial month.

Tip!

Always remember to show the effective date for any changes affecting a member’s information. Whenever possible, provide the reason why the change is required (i.e. marriage), and whether benefits are being maintained.
