The benefits of nature: Tips for a happy & healthy summer

85 views 0 June 12, 2024 Updated on October 17, 2024 ghclienthelp

June is Parks & Recreation Month. And while you could spend your time watching the hit tv sitcom with the same name, perhaps embracing warmer weather and immersing yourself in the great outdoors could be more enriching.

Spending time outside is often linked to reduced stress and anxiety, while also boosting mood, creativity, and overall well-being.

Before heading out on your summer vacation, here’s a quick checklist of things to be mindful of before, during, and after your time in nature.

  1. Plan ahead: Before heading out, research your destination, familiarize yourself with the terrain, make any necessary reservations, and check the weather forecast (and air quality or wildfire conditions where applicable) to ensure your outing runs smoothly.
  2. Pack essentials: Bring along essential items such as water, sunscreen, insect repellent, a first aid kit, and appropriate clothing and footwear for the activities you’ll be enjoying.
  3. Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout your outdoor adventure to stay hydrated, especially on hot, sunny days.
  4. Respect nature: Leave no trace by practicing diligent care for the environment, including disposing of waste properly and respecting wildlife and natural habitats.
  5. Stay connected: Inform someone of your plans, including your destination and expected return time, and consider bringing a charged cell phone or other communication device in case of emergencies.
